HPV, the Vaccine, and Cancer

Nearly 80% of sexually active people in the United States will have a genital HPV infection at some point in their lives. Over 30,000 people will be diagnosed with an HPV-related cancer in the next year in the United States. It is the agent responsible for venereal warts and is the most important factor in the development of cervical cancer in women, and the increasing head and neck cancers in men.

With more than half of a million new cases diagnosed each year, cervical cancer is the most common gynecological cancer worldwide, and it’s preventable. In this episode, Dr. Mendivil discusses the vaccine for HPV and what people can do to protect themselves.
