BPA + Hormone Disrupting Chemicals
Scientists have discovered that certain chemicals found in our food, drinking water, personal care items, and many plastic products may be contributing to the worldwide obesity epidemic. These compounds, called Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals, mimic the body’s natural hormone activity and can interfere with the body’s ability to regulate its own growth, development, metabolism and other functions. Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals like Bisphenol-A (BPA), phthalates, pesticides, and countless others, have been shown to contribute to a wide range of human diseases including cancer, heart disease, reproductive health problems, and neurodegenerative disorders.
Dr. Blumberg discusses the harmful effects of BPA, obesogens, and endocrine disruptors and how these environmental toxins are a powerful contributing factor to the growing obesity epidemic.

Dr. Bruce Blumberg is an internationally recognized expert on Toxicogenomics, Toxicoproteomics, and Environmental Endocrine Disrupters. He is a Professor in the Departments of Developmental and Cell Biology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Biomedical Engineering at the University of California, Irvine. Dr. Blumberg and his team were the first to propose “the obesogen hypothesis,” which holds that exposure to environmental endocrine disrupting chemicals may be an important factor predisposing individuals to weight gain and obesity.
