Mark Jacobson: The Big Vision
On March 25, 2014, the World Health Organization reported that seven million people die each year from air pollution, making it the number one environmental health risk on the planet.
The other disastrous environmental effects of burning fossil fuels and biomass for energy is the emission of greenhouse gases, like carbon dioxide, which is warming our planet with potentially devastating effects on humanity.
What is the solution to the air pollution and world climate change problem? Tune in as our guest discusses a detailed roadmap of exactly how we can supply all the world’s energy needs from wind, water, and solar power by the year 2050.
About Our Guest
Mark Jacobson is a professor of civil and environmental engineering at Stanford University, and the director of its Atmosphere and Energy Program.
In 2009, he coauthored a plan to power the world with wind, water, and sunlight, that received international attention when it was featured on the cover of Scientific American.
Since then, his group has published a detailed roadmap for how 100% clean and renewable Wind, Water, and Sunlight could provide all the energy needs for 139 countries around the world.
He is the cofounder of The Solutions Project, a group that combines science, business, and culture to develop and implement science based clean-energy plans for states and countries.
His TED debate with Stewart Brand is one of the all-time most popular TED talks in science and technology.
